I have lived in NYC for 15 years now and have eaten at over 20 or so different Italian restaurants in NYC, including some that are considered some of the 'best', including Roberto's in the Bronx, Trattoria L'Incontro in Queens, and Basilio Inn in Staten Island. And while the latter two are indeed excellent (I was not impressed with Roberto's at all)....I still must say that I consider Antica Trattoria to be THE BEST Italian I've had in all of NYC.

I used to live within walking distance of Antica and as such probably ate there over 40 times. So I have a good sense of what this place cooks up, and on a consistent basis. And as such I can say, the food here is consistently stellar!

My favorite dishes are their Antipasto Freddo, the arugula salad with shavings of parmesan cheese and orange slices, and their lasagna. (Many places have lasagna where the meat is a bit 'chewy', and the pasta may be a bit dried out/hard. Not so at Antica. Their lasagna just melts in your mouth!) I've also had some veal dish specials that were also excellent.

The ambiance is very warm and relaxed. This is a true family-run restaurant in a simple neighborhood. Now that I no longer live in the area, I still occasionally make a special one-hour plus long trip on the subway to eat here...it's THAT GOOD!

Family. The food is always fantastic. If you have the chance, try the Sunday sauce. The specials are always yummy. You can go there for any occasion; a romantic date, a family dinner, even bring your child. The family is lovely and always welcoming.

I call this place my hidden gem. Been coming here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. Food is always delicious and the staff make you feel like family. Not to mention the bonus of them not being overpriced. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Always great! They don’t list below the dishes I recommend. But I highly recommend all of them.
