I came here last night to pick up my take-out order. I ordered a salmon roll, a spider roll, and then a rainbow roll. I enjoyed all my rolls last night, and they were delicious. It was much needed for my late dinner. The restaurant was spacious inside, and the staff were friendly and inviting. I'll come here again soon for a dine-in experience. :)
The Kampai combo is the way to go. I love the shumai.
Update: 9/21/23 - service today was pretty inattentive and food was sloooooowwwww. There aren't that many tables and the server didn't seem to know that I had been waiting for my sushi 🍣 for like 40 minutes even though she took my order. Not a great experience. Food is still great, though.
One of the most comforting, positive dining experiences I’ve had in STL. I sat by the bar and was served graciously by Benji (I hope that’s how he spells his name). All night we bantered, being the perfect complement with the food. The restaurant isn’t overly flashy, it has the right amount of decorations to make it feel comfortable, without seeming like it was trying to be overly ethnic.
The service was spectacular, quick, and fresh. The food was as advertised. We started with Miso Soup to warm our tummies in the cold weather, followed by tempura. Crispy and tasty. My favorite part of the meal was the Hamachi Kama, a grilled yellowtail jaw. Finally we had a Chirashi and Kampai Special Roll.
If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would.
