Probably the best sushi I ever had in my life. Service is very nice and the people there is lovely! Don't miss the Tempura Udon, their signature rolls (btw veggie selection is awesome) and the mochi ice cream. But for god's sake, doesn't matter if you're already full: their green tea cheesecake is a heavenly experience for your palate. If you are a beer junkie like me, you have to try the Tokyo Black. A must have in San Francisco!
Excellent food and service, I will never forget this meal nor the people working here! Highly recommended. You will definitely notice that they love what they do.
My son and I have had sushi on both the east and west coast of the US and from various price ranges. Mikaku costs more than many of the places we have been. Dinner was about $12-20 per sushi plate and $22-30 for hot Japanese dishes. The cost is totally worth it!! The options are typical for a sushi/teriyaki restaurant. It's the quality of the ingredients and skill of the chef that makes all the difference. The rice is so light and fluffy, barely any residue left on your fingers, not clumpy. The wasabi dissolves almost instantly in the soy sauce, you don't have to stir it all up with globs of wasabi left floating. The seaweed is so soft it only takes a bite to get through it, not all chewy like most places where you have to eat a whole piece in one bite because you can't get through the seaweed. The fish practically melts in your mouth it is so fresh! Their sake is also some of the smoothest and flavorful I've ever had. By far the best sushi place we've ever been to in many states!!
Sat at the sushi bar, somehow the chef was both very focused on the arrangements he was preparing yet very engaging with me and the other patrons at the bar. I ordered the chef's choice sashimi and the summer roll. Both were delicious and very fresh. I highly recommend this place.
Good! Very quiet at lunch, but today is also the day before Thanksgiving. Una ju was very fatty; personally would have preferred it a little leaner or maybe more cooked, but still yum. You can split a pot of tea between two.
Great place for Gluten Free sushi! You would think fresh fish should be gluten free naturally - and while you are correct, it’s hard to find a sushi place that has tamari as well as a dedicated GF menu. The hamachi toro was super fresh and the staff is very polite and welcoming.
Would highly encourage for GF people
Fantastic sushi, and they teriyaki sauce was the best we've had in a very long time. Highly recommend!
Mikaku is a hidden gem for reasonable $$$ and awesome Sushi. Edamame to Spicy Tuna rolls were out of the world. We ended up with a group of 20 and still we were welcome with a smile and phenomenal service. Do not leave without trying the Plum Wine with Jalapeño.
Surprise find in San Francisco. Real janpenses chef and wasabi. With the fressh cut fish and friendly service. I highly recommend this place for sushi lover.
Wonderful food and nice service. Good over all selection of saki. I would highly recommend the Japanese mackerel.
Get there pre-9 for a walk in table.
We needed a quick delicious lunch before a 2 pm appt. We stumbled upon Mikaku and we were pleasantly surprised.
We sat at the bar which was empty when we came in, ordered three lunch special items and some uni. Service was kind and prompt. The food was very delicious, we know our sushi, and it did not disappoint.
I rarely give five stars on a first visit but this was a great first visit.
The facilities were very clean.
As far as comments on price point, I always say, you are dining in San Francisco. It was on point in my humble opinion.
Decent quality food
Price felt a bit high, but financial district SF might not be the case.
