After patronizing Doc Ricketts for the past two years I've always been satisfied with the cuisine. I have also enjoyed comedy shows in the basement at night. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the eats are quite delicious. I highly recommend stopping in to check it out. My favorite Nosh is the liver toast. It tastes like pate.
We really enjoyed our first visit here and look forward to returning to also visit the jazz club downstairs. looks like you have to come early to get a seat at the club. Drinks and dinner were so well done and the service made us feel very welcome. The corn soup was especially delicious. I loved it so much I tried to order the same thing somewhere else the next day to repeat the experience. No comparison, Doc Rickett's version won hands down.
Great ginger beer and hard cider paired with prepared meats with and chicken liver mousse to die for! And they have cheese burgers that meet the very high standards and sophisticated tastes of the those whose expectations are exceeded only by their appetite! The Comedy show was great!
Well, it took a couple tries, but I finally got to try Doc Ricketts a couple months back, and by god I've been missing out. Or, well, let's back up a bit: I've commented before about how restaurants rarely seem to nail appetizers, entrees, AND dessert, but rather, some subset of them. Doc is the same, having pretty tasty entrees, but having particularly delicious appetizers:
* Yellowtail Crudo, Fried Avocado, Citrus - Definitely on the smaller, lighter side, as far as appetizers go, but enjoyable with every bite. The yellowtail was fresh, the fried avocado provided a nice crunch to every bite, and the citrus (grapefruit, we think) really sealed the deal and gave the entire dish a nice brightness.
* Beef Carpaccio & Fried Asparagus - The other excellent appetizer we had, with the beef having tons of great flavor, and the fried asparagus serving the same purpose as the avocado with the crudo, adding a nice textural mouthfeel.
* Pork Chops & Lentils - Well, first, you need to like lentils. Assuming you do, this dish had some good flavor, but the pork was a little tougher than I would have preferred.
* Pesto Gnocchi - Good flavor, but, as a personal preference, I tend to like my gnocchi with a little more resistance. Our waiter had described these as pillowy, and that's indeed what they were, so if that's how you like your gnocchi, give this a shot!
* Ground Short Rib Burger - This I had no complaints about. Best burger I've had? Nah, but definitely very, very tasty.
***Accessibility Info***
Venue - There are two entrances into the restaurant, from what I recall, of which (the side entrance) isn't accessible. The main door (slightly further up the hill) where the maitre d' is, is, however. The inside of the restaurant itself is rather open, so getting around isn't an issue. Their bar is standard inaccessible bar height, but their actual dining tables are fine. I believe there's either a lower or upper level, but I'm not sure those are accessible either.
Bathroom - Didn't try them.
Only been here for lunch so that's what I'm considering in this review. Service was solid, if maybe a bit understaffed for a busy lunch time (though I've been here when it was empty as well so it makes sense). Menu is real cool - nice place to go for a business lunch. Kinda pricey, but everything in FiDi is.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
A friend managed to get us a table here for my birthday while in SF and I couldn't have been more impressed. We very looked after the whole night with amazing food and drinks.
Our waiter seemed to be having a bad night and kept forgetting our requests but everyone has a bad day every now and again.
Food was very good. Quiet place to eat near the Financial District, good for a business meeting. Good service. Only negative was the sandwich I had was a bit salty, but it was very good anyway.
Great staff, simple yet extraordinary food, fun and clever drink experiences and back bar wrapped up in awesome prices!!! (And they have live music and shows for $10-15/pp) Wow!
This place definitely did not disappoint. The service was good and the burger was amazing. We also had the tuna appetizer which was very good as well. I would definitely recommend this place.
This place is pretty tasty. Came here for team lunch and got the burger. Portions are slightly small but still good. Try the pims and fries as well.
