While new to Fried Chicken with Waffles, I have grown to enjoy this combination of sweet and savory with soft and hard textures. My latest find just opened at the San Francisco Ferry Building called Brown Sugar Kitchen. I was not familiar with this restaurant, but I suspect to return. I ordered the combination buttermilk fried chicken with cornmeal waffle. The 2 pieces of fried chicken had very little batter but full of tender goodness and flavor. The waffle was so light, airy and fluffy that it did not hinder my appetite for dessert. I tried 1 of my friend’s beignets but was disappointed. The beignet was not as crispy and light as I have had at other SF restaurants. All in all, I would return to the Brown Sugar Kitchen for the buttermilk fried chicken and other sides.
We stumbled upon this place in search of breakfast at the ferry building and it did not disappoint. We had the beignet and the chicken and waffle. Everything was soooo good. Would definitely go back when I visit San Francisco again.
Fantastic addition to the Ferry Building. Everything is just perfect. The chicken is juicy and the waffles and light and crispy. If I was closer i'd come here for some of my lunches. lol. Maybe I should run here and then come back, then I could justify chicken and waffles.
Happy to have Brown Sugar on this side of the bay :D
When I say they know how to season and fry some chicken and bake some biscuits.... Honey! You have to have to try the chicken and waffles and get a biscuit with jam. You won't regret it!
Love love love! Love their fried chicken, cornbread, waffles and biscuits! So happy to have them at the Ferry Building!
Brown Sugar Kitchen Oakland is insanely good. The waffles are the perfect blend of light, flaky and crispy. The chicken is tender with a savory, crisp fried crust. Oakland BSK has the best chicken and the best waffles on earth in my humble opinion.
Sadly, the waffles at the ferry building are soggy. The chicken is still perfect though, maybe even better.
I don’t know if the soggy waffles at The Ferry Building is because they come in a box and get sweaty before you get them to the table or the waffle pan is not hot enough or the fog from the bay makes them wet: I wish they were as perfect as the ones in Oakland. At least there is only a fraction of the wait at the Ferry Building.
Great food. Tried the chicken sandwich and gumbo. Both delicious. Hometown feel with a great view of the bay.
# Fried Chicken and a Waffle. Get it.
That's all you need to know. This is the best fried chicken in San Francisco right now.
The precision in which they mix the tarragon, paprika, onion powder, cayenne and the other dozen ingredients is world renowned.
Michelin, especially in the United States, oddly refuses to give a star to quick service restaurants for the most part. Just because a place only has plastic forks doesn't mean it's not the best meal you that you can buy for any price. This is less than $13 for two pieces of heaven.
Food is great, portions are a good size. I always make a point to come here when visiting the Ferry Building.
They could put more seating outside at least more chairs, at lunch time it's very hard to find a spot to sit down; before 12 or after 1 probably better chance you get a seat outside.
Chicken was fantastic. Mac&Cheese totally recommended and the biscuit 🤤
