Good little pork pate chauds $1.25 here. We ordered eight of the square ones and four of the triangle ones. We already ate some Cambodian noodles earlier but found room for some pate chauds. These will probably not be good the next day so we had to hurry. We ate all of them on the way from SJ to SF. Good times.
FRESH PATE CHAUD! The price isn't too bad. This was some of the best I have had in a while. Flakey and buttery puff pastry, flavorful ground pork, and OF COURSE, the savory pate. So good. We physically saw the worker take the pate chaud out of the oven when we came in. It was so fresh and LITERALLY hot out the oven.
KEEP IN MIND: If you're not Vietnamese, this shop can be quite intimidating. The workers will talk to you in Vietnamese despite talking to them in English, so try your best to use context clues or be clear if you cannot speak Vietnamese.
As confusing as it is, there are two locations for Vien dong and they are in plazas next to one other. Go figure? Well turns out, they are sisters. Not sure the point or if there's any famiy feud behind it, but who knows? who cares? I'm here for the pate chaud and sugar cane! Anyway, they both have the sammmme stuff there except one is bigger than the other. I love how they don't just carry Pate Chaud, they have a variety of them. I love the durian one, which many do not like! The coconut one is amazing too, but it's more of a dessert to me.
The only difference is that this one does carry togo foods. I haven't tried any of the foods to be completely honest, but I've heard it isn't bad!
They do open early because I pass by every morning on my way to work. They are CASH ONLY!
