The eggplant fries are awesome! Really long wait but food was fresh and hot. The sandwiches are good. Fresh juices are good. The dinner menu looks good also. Was about $12 per meal. Great to see plant based options in San Marcos, go try it out.
Bring your carnivore friends here, and they’ll be astonished, astounded, and amazed. I assure you of this!
Here’s the important stuff (the food) right up front and in yo’ face!
Chili Cheese Potato Wedges ($7)
The potatoes were cooked PERFECTLY. Not too hard not too soft, just right. The potatoes were dusted in some sort of really light coating (I’m not sure what it was), just like the ones with real parmesan cheese. The chili on the potato wedges is awesome and had a subtle, spicy kick to it, but not overwhelmingly so.
Next up - the Chopped BBQ Sandwich ($8)
Where do I start with this one? Let’s start with the “meat.” I took one piece off the sandwich to taste it all on its own, and it was incredible. I took another piece to dissect and examine further. It’s not a glob of tofu or soy, it really looks and tastes like real meat. So now that I have that out of the way, I can dig in to the sammich like the glutton I am. Let me tell you, as I write this, the memory of the sweet BBQ sauce, the creamy coleslaw, and the fresh bun it was all served on, has me wanting to drive out there for more.
There are two (maybe three) Hungarian dishes on the menu. I’ve never had Hungarian food before, so I think I’ll head out there again and try one of those, especially since one of the owners is Hungarian (it must be the real deal).
It’s family owned and operated and each person I interacted with was very friendly and nice. The place is only a few months old, and they keep it very clean. I watched them as I ate and they were constantly cleaning in between cooking and bringing food out.
Everything is compostable. The to go containers, the plates, even the cups.
Everything is prepared as you order it, so expect it to take some time.
It’s hard to find, but just navigate to Nostimo Cafe, park on the street, and then find your way to the backside of Nostimo’s. You won’t regret it!
My husband and I stopped in here today, and we were not disappointed! I had the coconut chicken with fried okra, mashed potatoes, and cabbage. My husband had the Southern plate that had a fried chicken cutlet with gravy, and he got fried okra, cabbage, and potato wedges. I had the strawberry lemonade to drink. If you're looking for a vegan restaurant with great comfort food, Binge Kitchen is it. The place was super clean. The decor was nice. The portions were just right, and everything was delicious! The owners were super nice, too. We had a little bit of a wait for the food, but, as these are the restaurant's early days--and it was New Year's Eve, we didn't mind. The place had a brisk business, but it wasn't crowded. I don't expect that will last once word gets out, though! At any rate, we are so excited that Binge Kitchen is joining the growing vegan restaurant scene in San Antonio. We will be back!
