Had a lovely dinner at Alderwood. Food was phenomenal (bone marrow was my personal favorite) and the service is attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely come back!
Alderwood comes with all the elements we’re used to in New York’s best new restaurant scene: exposed filament lighting, a 20 foot tall high-end liquor wall, a 10-chef open kitchen, a chef’s prix fixe tasting menu, excellent wait staff, and definitely: Manhattan prices. It genuinely feels transplanted from the West Village.
But there are some Santa Cruz elements that are great too; you can get a delicious two-patty cheeseburger for $16, and you can also BYO wine.
Anything you get will taste incredible. Can’t wait to go back for the burger!
Certainly a place to treat yourself to. If you are lucky the fresh oysters are available until they run out.
The ambiance and service of this place is perfect. I’m surprised to find such caliber in my backyard and so very lucky.

I absolutely loved everything about this place! My boyfriend and I drove from an hour away just to go here for our 1 year anniversary, I found the restaurant recommended in the Michelin Guide. I'm so happy with my experience, everything was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and it was such a treat to be seated right by the kitchen and get to watch the chefs in action through the glass walls. I've always wanted to try hen-of-the-woods since I'm a mushroom fanatic, and the dish we got as an appetizer did not disappoint at all. I would love to come back sometime for another special occasion!
Alderwood almost feels out of place in Santa Cruz but I appreciate that when I want to splurge and get a great chef inspired dining experience without having to drive over the hill. Delicious food, great drinks and quality bar selection. Service is clean, warm and seating is comfortable. Highly recommend reservations. Best Hen of the Woods smoked (vegetarian) cheeseburger I've ever had!!
Fabulous! The entire staff there were all super welcoming and worked well as a team taking care of all their customers. The food was all delicious and very well thought out. Definitely try all their mushroom dishes, their fresh oysters, bone marrow, crab cake beniet, and desserts! Their cocktails were all super refreshing and addictive lol! Thank you for the great experience!
Keep in mind this place is slow. But the food was worth the wait - delicate and flavorful. Cocktails are great but pricey. Twenty something bucks per glass.
Alderwood was a great experience. We loved the ambiance and the friendly staff. We didn't know and ordered the uni crudo, which is basically a piece uni on top of half lime. Not impressed. I ordered the trout which was very good. The eggplant side dish was MARVELOUS.
