Went for a dinner there with my uncle who knows his Mexican food well great place had an amazing time had hard shell tacos and ceviche amazing food gives feel of cancun in la worth a try

Great food, great vibe. Fun place, good food. Upstairs has way better atmosphere, then below, but either place you get great, interesting dishes and the family is super friendly.

A definite dining destination. Of the many Mexican restaurants that pepper Los Angeles like New York City Starbucks, this is very near the top of the list. The ambiance is comfortable and unpretentious, but nowhere near seedy. The energy spent at other restaurants forcing waitstaff to wear "authentic" Mexican dress is clearly aimed at making the food authentic here. Incredibly fresh chips and homemade salsa made their way to the table quickly, and came dangerously close to being too filling.
The menu is extensive, with many standard Mexican fares scattered among some more unique dishes. One that caught my eye was steak served with cactus. In the end I decided to go with the more traditional tamales. The texture was perfect, the chicken was roasted to an amazing tenderness, and the red chili sauce was a perfect spicy addition.
Waitstaff was kind and super attentive and the wandering flamenco minstrels were a nice touch.
Will make this a new West side dining destination, and will be sure to try a margarita next time.
Randomly picked this placed for an impromptu celebratory lunch. Small interior dining area with a patio out back. Inside was packed, so we were on the patio. Had the Chile verde plate. Mild, light, and still delicious. Also had a Cadillac margarita that was very tasty. Staff was awesome. *Update: Food continues to impress, and service is excellent.
Lares never disappoints. Whoever is cooking the food is a master. The chilaquiles and salsa taste like my mommas. Have a michelada and a chile verde plate. The feel of the restaurant is perfect. Yes, ambience. Also, my waiter went out of his way to ask the cook if he can make me this chilaquile plate pictured after breakfast/lunch. Master Chef, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Decided to come with a larger group a bit last minute. They were very accommodating and the service & food were amazing. All requests were met and service was seamless. Great folk art and decor upstairs. Margaritas were the icing on the cake—will definitely return!!
Let me just say this: one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever visited. Restaurant itself is mid-sized however is very cozy and inviting. The food is very authentic, keeping the root flavours and dish presentation, respecting the way they should be. Dishes are generous and will allow for two to share if that's decided. Service is very attentive, always accommodating to the guests. There are outside and inside seating accomodations as well as parking at the back side. Will visit the place again whenever I'm back in the area.

So a friend of mine said let's go have lunch at a place I hadn't been to in a while since he moved. He said this is truly one of the greatest Mexican restaurants ever. And how right he was. Soft taco was awesome. But the chili relleno was truly the best I've ever had. And it's my number one go-to at all Mexican restaurants. Service, food, staff, amazing.
Lares never fails to disappoint. They have the best chips/salsa, great and reasonably priced margaritas, and their food always hits the spot. On top of it all, the atmosphere and vibes are immaculate.

Great Mexican food. And stuff are so fun and nice too. Also there were two men playing guitars at night! I saw two grouped of birthday crowed. So yes Looks like it’s a good place to celebrate in a small group as well.
Came for a birthday dinner and the service, drinks and ambiance was great! The food was good, however, on my plate and another plate that was ordered in my party, we felt that we probably could have been served a bit more protein rather than sauce that came with the plate.
Other than that everything deserves 5 stars.
