We've lived in the neighborhood for years and finally made it in. I wish we'd come sooner!
We were able to make a Saturday reservation day-of and were able to get outdoor seating. The service was very professional.
We both ordered a special for our entree. The salmon carpaccio appetizer was fresh and light. The rest of the food was also delicious and just the right portions.
Excellent italian food and good service. The wine list is also good. They have both an indoor and outdoor eating area. Parking can be a bit difficult during busy times.
We had an alumni gathering for 10 there for lunch. Setup/service: impeccable. The items on the expansive menu were universally praised by our guests. The bucata, meatballs and mushroom chicken, my dishes, were exceptionally well prepared. While small, the space is well laid-out and comfortable for groups of various sizes. There is plentiful street parking nearby and five free of charge spots directly in front of the restaurant.
The best Italian Food in Santa Monica! We are locals and we frequent them all... including the one in the canyon and the one surrounded by hotels. If you want the absolute best Italian Food in Santa Monica, Portofino is just IT!!
It's been a while since I have been here and the food is excellent. However I was disappointed by our waiter. He was rude to my daughter and made us feel uncomfortable.
I only stayed because our busser was great.
It feels like being in Italy, the atmosphere is Divine as well as the food, and service. We were super pleased.
Thank you!

Why go to any other Italian restaurant?
Love the classic yet elegant, East Coast kind of energy. All our dishes and apps were outstanding, only thing I thought was kind of meh was the tiramisu, which was a little bland.
Had the breaded veal (off menu special). Was delicious with a side of marira sauce.
People are going to think I'm getting soft when I give such glowing reviews, yet, here's another restaurant that deserves the mention.
Not being a professional food critic it's hard to evaluate how to review Italian food. I think every American has had their share of Italian food and it ranges just across a large spectrum from the Olive Garden/Maria's at one end up to a place like this or Il forno on 28th and Ocean Park at the other.
I think the feature that these two restaurants (Locanda & Il Forno) share in common is that they both make you feel incredibly welcome when you walk in the door. It's as if you are their best customer no matter how long it's been since you've been there. There's a level of experience and grace in the service and it seems so easy and natural. It just feels like a good time, period.
In regard to the food, I just find the food here so tasteful. What do I mean by that? I mean that you can discreetly taste the flavors in each and every dish. For example, I like dipping my bread in olive oil. Well, The olive oil they use is just all together different. This thread of taste runs through every single dish they make, so it really doesn't matter what you try.
So I highly suggest you go try this place and see if you concur. Let me know if you disagree. 😊
Love Love Love this place! They have much more seating now that they can be outside. The pasta is fantastic. I wasnt a fan of their plain sauce but it each their own. Service is hilarious and quick. Our waiter recommended something a little different, prepared us for what it would be like and was right on the money. Saw Conan O'Brien there one time. Cool!
