Chasen was the most helpful and friendly person you could meet in the food industry. I will definitely visit this resturant just because of him!
Loved it, great decor, so much of the original Penguins' has been preserved. Food was excellent, though it will be out of reach for a lot on a tighter budget.
Loved the atmosphere and the juke boxes available at most tables! Such a classic place. The food was decent, my partner loved his steak and eggs breakfast. I tried the prime rib grilled cheese sandwich and I didn't like it at all (too greasy and the meat wasn't good for me). Overall we had a nice time but it did add up quickly price wise so that's something to consider. Cute experience overall.

Our server was awesome! He recommended a banana peanut butter shake which was a dream! Food tasted fresh and delicious. We liked how this location is just a short walk to the pier, so we were able to walk off our meal.
I loved the food( Hollywood burger).My mom wasn't a fan of her veggie burger but my food was good. I also had a good Bellini for only $5. Also I like that there are jukeboxes at some tables there was one at our table. Only 25 cents to play a song.The music is all old school but there is some nice music some of my mom's favorites and some songs I liked. It was a nice vibe overall.
Loved it. Got 3 breakfast items to go and it was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Great sized meals. Atmosphere was awesome. Very clean. Will go back again.
Hubby got protein breakfast. I got steak and eggs and our daughter got Nutella French toast. We all shared bites of our food and it was all equally good.
My daughter who is six loved my steak and ate majority of her French toast and all her bananas and strawberries.
We loved it so much we came back the next day for breakfast again! We got steak and eggs, waffle with strawberries and bananas, and the yuppie turkey scramble. We all date family style and absolutely loved it. Might go back again for a third day!
Best Mel's drive-in I've been to. Great atmosphere, nice employees, and tasty bites! When I'm around, I always stop here for a nice lunch or dinner.
Arrived 7:15am. Was promptly seated and asked what to drink. Wonderful people work here. Ordered the lumberjack meal and man was it huge! Coffee was frequently refilled. Was a great experience, for sure will be back.
🍳 🥓 1st stop off the flight craving some classic home style breakfast and Mel’s hit the bullseye 😋 Best hashbrowns EVER! They make em right with real butter 🧈 🤤 and crispy! Really dig’n the vibe and the service was fantastic! This will be my breakfast spot in LA moving forward as I’ll need to comeback and get my hashbrowns fix! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We enjoyed our time eating breakfast here. It’s nice and clean inside. They have cute jukeboxes at some of the tables so bring some quarters. The food was great. I got the breakfast sandwich and home fries and it was delicious. The bacon on the sandwich was made perfect.

This is place is just perfect. We had to stay one night near Santa Monika and we arrived early in the morning. From our motel recommended Mel’s and for reasons. We had some of their breakfasts and it was so delicious and big portions. The next day we visited it for lunch and it was almost full. While walking to our table we saw some of the portions at the others and they seems like for two persons. We had Mel’s famous burger. It was delicious but especially this portion was normal, not so big. We loved the jukebox and the places at all. Typicall American place like in the movies. The staff were very kind and the service was fast. They have special menu for kids. We saw they have restaurants places in Hollywood and San Diego.
Such a great place. The food was great, service was flawless and atmosphere is just perfect! Music is on point and it’s clean and cozy.
