All of the food we had was absolutely delicious! Will definitely come back. Very hip, cool restaurant with mix of sushi and and other hot dishes. I had the marinated black cod and it was phenomenal! Perfectly seasoned, I couldn't put my fork down. The asparagus sesame almond side dish was excellent as well and for dessert, order the chocolate bread pudding, you won't be sorry!

This resturant in absolutely outstanding on every level. Weather you are stopping in for a quick solo bite, with a few friends or a corporate/company dinner Maru has it all. The food is next level, the menu is abundant, everything is fresh and by fresh I mean pretty well brought in daily. I had their 40 pz rib eye steak and various selections from the sushi/ sashimi menu. One of my cients ordered the Curry Lamb and it was absolutely mind blowing. Walnut salad, squash soup, arguably the best chocolate chip cookies in LA this place literlally has it all. The portions at Maru are sizeable, the wine list is exquisite, the atmosphere is ambient and upscale/modern. Master sushi chefs and an incredbily warm and professional staff I am looking forward to more great food experiences at Maru.

Tonight i introduced my friend Sophia, who had just finished back-to-back finals at UCLA, to Maru for a pre-birthday celebration. she says her experience at Maru has forever spoiled her for future sashimi experiences. except for when she returns to Osaka, Japan this summer! (: i myself have been to Maru about 4-5 times now and each time, the experience has been stellar. my very first Maru experience was with a friend from Osaka, Japan -- and we were both SUPER satisfied with our Nigiri choices and a hot entree choice. mecha oiishi. parking at Maru is easy. the Visitor Parking entrance is located off of McClellan Drive. enter the parking structure driveway labeled for Visitor and Restaurant parking. Maru will validate. From the various Parking garage elevators, select Floor 1. upon arriving at the Lobby Floor, head towards Wilshire Blvd and the entrance to Maru should be on your right. upon entering Maru, we were greeted by the host and given the option of sitting at the sushi bar or at a table. Sophia chose to sit at the sushi bar and it made for a fun evening of being able to interact with Nakamura-san (our Master Sushi Chef). He was so gracious in not correcting me when i first addressed him incorrectly as Naka-san earlier in the evening (i totally misheard one of the staff introducing him and did not realize i was addressing him incorrectly until i overheard another staff introduce him as Nakamura-san) -- gomenasai Nakamura-san! Sophia and i both ordered the Chirashi | "scattered sushi" chef's choice of sashimi with sushi rice (please refer to my photo). everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully arranged. if i remember correctly, our "scattered sushi" consisted of: ma dai: sea bream, japan | fooko: true sea bass, japan | shima aji: premium spanish mackerel, japan | shiromi kobujima: white fish, marinated with kelp | chu toro: medium oily blue fin tuna | botan ebi: raw sweet shrimp, japan | tsuri aji: spanish mackerel, fattier, more tender, japan | hamachi: o-buri yellowtail, japan | hamachi toro: yellowtail belly, japan | tako: cooked octopus, japan | shake: salmon | ikura: salmon caviar, marinated | tamago: dashi maki, sweet rolled egg | **i might have mixed up one or two -- again, gomenasai Nakamura-san and Maru! the fattier sashimi pieces are always my favorite so i tend to save those for last and pair it with the shiso: light peppery fragrant green leaf that kind of looks like a delicate graceful version of a maple leaf. this is the 2nd time i have had the Chirashi at Maru and again, it was simply delicious. my first time having Chirashi at Maru was on May 19th, 2016. yes, i came back quite soon thereafter for another "sushi fix" and will do so from now on as Maru has become my favorite "go-to" Sushi place. my favorite places for sushi are just a tad bit far away -- Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo, Japan and Manna, Osaka, Japan. throughout the entire dinner, our server, the host and even another server were very attentive, making sure our glasses were full and checking to see if we needed anything. The staff at Maru is very professional and warm -- hospitable. while the Chirashi left us very full (onaka ipai!) and completely satisfied, we could not leave without devouring the Berry Cobbler (it takes 20 minutes to prepare so be sure to let your server know ahead of time). The crust of the cobbler was a little bit crunchy with just the right amount of caramelization from the sugars of the berries while the body of the cobbler was light and airy. it was served hot -- right in the ramekin that it was baked in. it needed to be devoured quickly since the ice cream on top was melting at a rapid rate. (: Maru is a hidden gem and while i am excited for more folks to enjoy its delicious offerings, must confess i am scared that the next time i go, it will be crazy crowded. as is such with all the delicious good places.
