Enjoyed an amazing dinner Friday night at this little hidden gem. da Filippo's has been in Somerville since 1988 and it took us this long to find it! Family-owned authentic Italian (Sicilian) cuisine. The minute you arrive, you know the heart of this family is in this establishment. Berta, Filippo's wife, greats you when you arrive, introduces herself, promises you a wonderful meal, and is truly grateful that you have chosen their restaurant. Though the menu is not extensive, the dishes are creative, ingredients are fresh, and our personal selections were delicious. For your further enjoyment, Filippo himself treats his guests on Friday and Saturday nights (in between preparing his delicious meals) by singing an playing his baby grand piano - truly entertaining! An upscale, romantic setting, yet still a B.Y.O.B. Highly recommended for a special night. Enjoyed our first time there with some great friends!
This is a nice small restaurant, where the owners greet you and genuinely care about your experience and food quality. Every dish I have had, and that is quite a few, were fantastic. They have been in business for 30 years and still have a passion for excellence. I can hardly wait to go back again.
Visisting NJ for my bday and googled restaurants near me and this one seemed pretty good. It was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious 😋. The service was immaculate and it was an all around great time. Would recommend. Dont remember the name of the meals but i have uploaded the pics. Also, wasn't aware that you bring your own wine which is pretty cool. This nice couple next to us shared theres with us which was so nice of them. Highly recommend this place. I ordered desert the flan (not my favorite of all the dishes)and i mentioned my bday earlier and the lady gave me a candle and sang me happy bday. So so sweet of her. Great atmosphere and cozy.
Delicious food. Great atmosphere. I noted in the reservation that it was our anniversary dinner, and he gave us a live performance on the piano!
Filippo helped me plan my mother’s funeral luncheon at his restaurant recently. The five course, perfectly prepared, efficiently executed event was flawless.The wine he selected for us was delicious and priced very reasonably. He and his wife went out of their way to make planning this event very stress free for me. They both were incredibly warm and kind. As if this was not enough, Filippo concluded the luncheon by playing his piano and singing a medley of very appropriate and tender songs as a lovely tribute to my mother. People were moved to tears. I love Filippo. He is the best.
This place is legit! From the moment we walked in we were greeted very formally. The appetizer was outstanding, bruschetta with home made bread. The risotto cooked to perfection, and my wife cleaned her plate, no left overs. This is real classic Italian cuisine. Brought me back to new york, a true mom and pop shop fine dining at its best. The owners are very passionate and introduced themselves. My wife and I will be coming back routinely.
Phenomenal food and experience. Came for the first time here with my bf tonight, and we both agreed it was some of the best Italian food/dining experiences we had. The staff even encouraged him to play the piano in the dining room :) will definitely come back.
The owner cooks and entertains, and his wife takes the orders. Both are extremely kind and friendly. The food is authentic Sicilian cuisine, every dish was amazing. From the start the Bruschetta was unlike any I have had at any other restaurant. The marinara sauce was also unlike any I have had before, reminded me of my wife's Sicilian grandmothers sauce. We can't wait to return!
A little pricey and doesn't look like much from the outside, but frankly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Once inside it's a gorgeous little restaurant with an owner/chef who obviously loves his job and his customers. Incredibly nice and happy person. Waitress was very helpful and polite. Can't recommend highly enough.
The food is outstanding. Authentic Sicilian. Fresh, high quality ingredients. Ask for a second helping of the bread with tomato and cheese!!! Owner plays piano and sings. Truly some of the best Italian food in NJ.
