Love this place the food was Da "best" love this place and the teas were delicious iced or hot and service was fast and food was delicious and tasty I'll come back again for dinner or lunch and can't wait to eat my leftovers from this restaurant!!
The drinks & food were excellent, the server & owner were very friendly, and the environment is amazing, highly recommend!
Delicious ethnic food. Large portions and good prices. The owner and her staff are an amazing bunch of people. Ethiopian games at the tables to entertain and staff is very friendly and was wonderful in teaching us about their culture. Definitely a fun experience.
Love the people that work there. Food was authentic and delicious!!!! I can't believe we found a place that brought back so many memories of our time in Ethiopia! Plus the owner of the Restauraunt was from the town we were located!
Great food and nice people, gluten free vegan friendly. On advice of the owner we had the veggie platter and a couple extra veg sides. Coffee (roasted on site) and Nutella cake for dessert. Everything was so delicious that we ate an unholy amount. This will be our haunt every time we pass through spokane. I'd go a hundred miles out of my way for it.
Reliable tasty. We've had dinner here quite a few times now, and its always good, depends on what you get though. It is a little spendy for portions that are not huge, but definitely filling. Shiro is REALLY good, same with the vegetables, and their injera is pleasantly fermented and fluffy. I think the combination plates are wonderful and a good deal, but we would love to occasionally substitute one of the dishes for something less spicey (for the kids with us). There is one server, and really nice lady, who serves us almost every time we've been there, and she's great. On one or two instances when we got one of the younger servers, they were spacey and stand-offish. The restaurant itself is too crowded. When you're sitting at a table of four, with the huge plate of food sitting between your party, where do you each put your water glass? The dessert selection is not great, but if you happen to get the sweet bun with coconut milk, on a night when the buns are fresh, you're in for a treat.
First time, but not the last. We went out this evening with another couple, friends who are fun and adventurous and foodies, wanting to try something out of the ordinary. The Queen of Sheba definitely provided a refreshing change from the average dining experience for each of us- the communal dish was really enjoyable!
The veggie chickpea dish, the red lentils, and the azifa lentil salad were my very favorites, but each dish was unique and a taste delight. Try the lamb tibs; that was especially tasty, too.
Almaz was a personable and personal hostess chatting with us and making us feel welcome and at home. Her son was our waiter and fielded our questions with grace and good humor.
You may feel full when you leave, but you can know it was wholesome, fresh, from-scratch food and you don't regret one bite.
We can't wait to return and bring more friends to introduce them to this wonderful Ethiopian cuisine!
My favorite place to eat. This is one of my all time favorite places to eat.
I understand it can be a bit overwhelming your first time, so let me tell you a bit about what to be prepared for, and some ordering advice.
This place is great for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters. If you tell your waitress that you are vegan, she will specially make your meal without butter.
Of the appetizers, the sweet potato fries are tasty, but are just like any other sweet potato fries. The spicy fried chick peas are nice, a lot like popcorn, but my absolute favorite are the samboosas. They are a lot like ordering samosas at an Indian restaurant.
The veggie or the meat ones are great, you can't go wrong with either.
Then when it comes to the main course, I have found that most people's first time, they want to order the meat sampler platter. Honestly, this is not my favorite dish on the menu. I don't really like it and i don't think the platter gives a good example of the potential of the food. I greatly enjoy the vegetarian sampler platter, but the meat one just isn't as good for some reason.
So, what I have discovered as my favorite thing to do when sharing my food with 1 or 2 other people, is get the vegetarian sampler platter and add the tibs. The tibs can come in lamb or beef, and it comes out in a cast iron dish with a candle under it so it continues to cook at your table. It is cooked in rosemary and is beautifully tender. Fantastic.
Now, be prepared, your food comes out on what I like to think of as a giant sour dough crepe. The bread is called Injera, and it has a sour taste to it, but the texture of a slightly fluffy, spongey crepe. The injera is not very good on it's own, so don't taste it by itself.
Everyone shares the one big meal that is served in the center of your table. You tear pieces of the bread and use it to pinch the different "plops" of food on it.
Some are spicy, some are not. The food feeds a lot of people. This is my favorite way to experience Queen of Sheba. It might be a bit much your first time, but it will grow on you.
A BIG RECOMMEND!!!. I have a new place to "What am I in the mood for? Don't know? Go." sit and enjoy. Of the hunderd times I went out to eat, and didn't know what I wanted, 9 times this year I ended up here. I love it. The owner is VERY nice and helpful. I just ask what is not too spicy, if I am not in the mood, of if I want lamb and she helps me pick out the dishes. The last 3 times in there I told her that I can't stay, but that I want in to go, it is no problem. But somehow, those 3 times, I ended up dinning in.
Remarkable!. Queen of Sheba is a remarkable restaurant. Almaz is a delight, and the food is an amazing experience. My favorites are the collard greens (Ye'abesha Gomen), the Beef Tibs or the spicier version of the beef tibs, Tibs We't and the D'oro We'tt. Oh, and the chick peas and lentils are great. It is all excellent, flavorful, and fun. Thanks, Almaz!

New Favorite!. My partner and I went here last night and were completely blown away! The food was so flavorful and nothing like we had ever experienced. Eating with our hands made the night for us. We are both very much into immersing ourselves into the cultures of other lands. Forget the utensils, and don't worry about getting messy. We were in dress clothes and never ended up spilling, something I can't say would have happened if I was using a fork. The vegetarian platter was huge, enough for the both of us to share and still have leftovers. The veggie sambussas were an amazing treat. The spiced tea was something that I cannot wait to try again, and can be served either hot or cold.
On a positive note, the owner is very helpful with anything she can do to make the experience positive. My partner has a life threatening allergy, and the owner was able to make sure that the full meal would be safe for her to consume. I also learned that the restaurant is now making GF injera (bread).
