This restaurant was recommended by a friend all the way from Washington state. When we arrived there was a 45 minute wait but we were told we could go down a couple doors to the pub and she’s call the bartender to let us know when our table was ready... now that was awesome!!! great beer at the pub and it made the wait go by just like that. Once inside we ordered and had the best meal... the cucumbers were out of this world and the shrimp was delicious.
Best Shrimp in Northeast Florida. Also if you like chicken gizzards you will love how O'steens fries them up nice and tender. Great choices in side. Friendly staff. As noted in previous posts, be prepared to wait for a table. Well worth the wait. If you don't like waiting I would recommend arriving around 2:30 p.m. I have been eating at O'Steens Restaurant since 1975. Never disappoints.
We heard that this was the best place in Saint Augustine for fried shrimp. Well... whoever said it was correct.!!! I have never eaten shrimp this good in my life. Isabelle was amazing at taking care of us. Very talented server for being new at it! Way to go belle! From food temp being spot on to the fresh flavor of the shrimp, you cant go wrong here. The hushpuppies cooked beautifully! The sauces were delicious too. We will definitely be back!!!
Waited for an hour and a half to have dinner. Was well worth it! My family had fried hush puppies, shrimp, grilled fish and hamburger steak. Delicious food and Jen our server was top notch!
Just some of the best fried shrimp anywhere, served with a friendly smile in a down home, down to earth atmosphere, like it's been done for over half a century. Service is always quick and efficient, but you will wait at busy times at least an hour, maybe two to get in. That's fine, if you didn't bring cash that gives you time to make some quick, cause you can't eat here without it.
Oh and they do serve other entree items besides shrimp- once in a while you'll see someone order them and they look good, but I wouldn't know. The shrimp are so good I've never bothered to try anything else.
I ordered their signature shrimp, it did not disappoint. I loved all the choices of yummy sides. I had pickled beets and collard greens. The beets were really good, the collard greens were a little spicier than I like. They offer three types of bread. Biscuits, cornbread and hush puppies. My favorite of all three was the cornbread, a great consistency and just a touch of sweet.
The absolute freshest shrimp that you will ever eat. They change their cooking oil several times a day so they are always golden brown. This is a picture of my plate.it looks like an add! Lll
Best fresh seafood I have had in a long time! We went back two days in a row! Oysters were amazing, shrimp was absolutely delicious. High quality fresh seafood in a small town southern style restaurant. Service was grand!!
Great restaurant known to the St Augustine locals. Fried, broiled, char-broiled are your cooking style options. Open Tuesday-Saturday. Bring CASH, NO Debit or Credit cards taken! Enjoy there southern hospitality!

I had a taste for some shrimp while I was hanging out in St. Augustine and a friend recommended O'Steen's. When I got there it was full and very busy. I almost got back in car when I saw all the people sitting outside, but I went in and it was seats at the counter top available. I ordered the 12 piece fried shrimp, green beans, and sweet potato casserole. Now I was already thinking to get a to go box because I normally don't eat but six shrimp. Especially when I start eating the sides. I ate the green beans first while they were nice and hot, and the hush puppies 😋😋when I tell you they both was delicious, as the young kids say (They were the bomb) the food was so good I was just eating away and before I knew it I had 3 shrimp left. 😂😂. Everything was so good I'm looking forward to when I go to St. Augustine again. I live in Fernandina Beach, FL area and when I go back to St. Augustine I'm going back to O'Steen's for sure. Thanks guys keep up the great work. Melissa was my waitress and she was amazing. The lady that checks the customers in was very kind. Everyone was very nice.
