A great place to spend a day! A lot of art and sculptures to see and interesting write ups to each explaining who is depicted, the artist and generally a location. If you have an interest in the old West you won't be disappointed. There is also a gift shop and restaurant there and a huge variety of places to eat on Central Avenue.
My husband and I were married on May 21, 2022. To begin, Valeria, was an absolute pleasure to work with. We had to change our date last minute and she made it seamless for us; she was always very quick to respond as well. This venue is truly magical, I am Native American, so it really made the day special. It was also perfect for our party of 90, we used all 3 rooms and half of the reception hall, which was more than enough room. It's truly the best venue downtown and if I could do it all over again I would pick the James Museum over and over again.
A wonderful Native American and Western art collection. I was amazed by this collection. Also saw Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher exhibit. Breathtaking photos. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return with some out of state visitors soon.
A beautifully curated collection. The whole family enjoyed it including the kids ages 10 and 13. The space is transformative and the complimentary coffee was a lovely touch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many bronze sculptures in an indoor museum, usually it’s an outdoor sculpture garden. The collection was larger than we expected, and we spent 2 hours, but you could spend longer without kids in tow. The audio tour was helpful but we would have loved a kid friendly one. Overall a lovely afternoon to slow down, reflect on history, and enjoy some art.
Much more bronze "life size" sculpture than I've ever seen elsewhere (and I've been to more than my share of museums). Stunning life-like work beautifully displayed. Paintings of wildlife that will transport you to the Serengeti plain. This museum is a "must see."
I really like their collection. No problem parking on the street, but if you park in the garage the first hour is free (and a $1 an hour after that.). I would recommend the highlights audio tour. They have a few salads and snacks that you can purchase. The military discount is for all vets, not just active duty.
A must see! i had no idea what a great experience was in store. i highly recommend visiting this beautiful museum. From the minute you walk in, youknow you are in for a treat! I would recommend taking a tour with a docent, but they also have walking tours aided by your cell phone (remember to bring headphones). the tour was 1 hour 45 minutes and well worth it. you get a “brief” description of the many works of art. Simply amazing!
Phenomenal collection of art relating to and by Native Americans. The highlight of my visit was the jaw dropping "Jewel Box" room. Whoa! It houses a stunning collection of intricately crafted Native American jewelry. I highly recommend this museum of you are in the St. Petersburg area.
