We tried this out as a suggestion from locals of a family friendly down to earth place with a simple menu. We had a great experience. BIG KUDOS to Michelle!!!!! Upon entering with our family of four, we noticed she was only server in the family dining section and worked nonstop with two tables of 10 to 15 people (parents at one table with kids at another table). She came up and welcomed us right away and took our order to get us in before starting with the two large tables. She didn’t stop running the whole time we were there and had a smile on her face the whole time. She’s clearly someone who enjoys and appreciates her job. Thanks so much Michelle!!! Also the Burger and Beer Cheese sliders were wonderful!! Dining room and Bathrooms were nice and clean. A very welcoming, family friendly place with great prices, great food, great staff!!! We will be back next time we’re in town.
Woodies is a hidden gem. Great for a nice, quiet, low key, date night or a family get together. The specials are wonderful and the prices are refreshing compared to other places around the area. Don’t wait to be seated at crowded St. Joseph restaurant, come to Woodies and leave the tourists behind. Sliders are great, steak dinner special is approved by my picky eater niece and several other family members, baked potatoes are cooked perfectly, potato skin appetizer is home made and delicious, chicken fingers don’t have all that extra breading like other places, so good. Don’t forget to try the tater tots! Bring your friends!

Good food at a good price; nice, friendly staff, clean, a nice place to bring the family or friends. The reuben was very good. I'll be back on Friday for the fish fry.
Friday: We returned for the fish fry. I got half Cod and half the other kind of fish (I forget the name). BEST COD FRY IN SW Michigan!!! It was delicious and all you can eat!!! ALSO, they have the BEST COLESLAW in SW Michigan!!!! No kidding. We will be back..
Saturday: We were in Grand Rapids and stopped by Bonefish Grill to have an early dinner at 4:30pm. Not only were they booked (the hostess was a snot), it had at least an hour and a half wait. No way.. So we drove home and stopped by Woodies for Dinner. Nice table with no wait with a friendly smile. I got the following:
Tempura Shrimp: 10 huge lightly battered shrimp that tasted so fresh I swear they just dipped them out of the Gulf of Mexico.
Tater Tots: Crunchy, hot, and delicious.
Coleslaw: Best in SW Michigan. Maybe the world. I don't know. I don't get out that much.
Garlic Bread: Yummy. Goes nice with the shrimp.
Ice Cold Miller Lite: Need I say more?
Desert:
Deep Fried Twinkie: OMG, was that good!!!! Unbelievable!! You got to try it.

In closing, I would like to just say that Woodies Tavern is the best kept secret in our area. I almost hate to post such a grand review because if people read this and start going there, as they should, Woodies might get too busy and I might not get a table when I go there. So don't go there. Just kidding. You should go there.
Our server, Jonathan, was amazing! Go just for him even if you're not hungry.
One of our party had the shrimp dinner. It looked good and he said it was good.
Another member had the fish plate. She also said it was good.
I originally ordered the taco salad which was not to my liking. They replaced it, and a third guest and I had the 8 oz steak special. We both enjoyed it. Hers was medium well and she liked it. Mine was medium rare and just right. We both had baked potatoes, which we enjoyed; and beans which I enjoyed but she left.
Prices run about $10.
I Would enjoy coming back.

took my kids out to eat with my boyfriend and my kids were treated so sweetly and felt like we were at home, food was absolutely delicious!
Absolutely the most friendly service!! Here from out of state and the staff was so helpful with tips for beaches ⛱. Food was outstanding!! Homemade spinach dip, 100% best I've ever had! Great place
Here is a location that needed some work in the past. The new owner has done a lot of work on the interior as well as the menu.
The cheeseburger was amazing and the Monday burger special is a great deal. I've heard good things about the rest of the food as well. Give it a shot!
This place has decently priced, pretty good food. There are good specials pretty much everyday, including the 10 oz Prime Rib for $12.99. My favorite is the $0.55 chicken wings on Weds. The Welcome Inn next door is more of a dive with good burgers and Water Mark Microbrewery doesn't have good at all but often has a food truck. I like to have some decent food with decent beer prices and this place fits the bill.
Awesome little tavern with very good food. The guy behind the bar was very welcoming and did an extremely good job at making sure we were taken care of. Did I say the food was delicious. I will definitely be back. Awesome job woodies tavern👍👍
Woodies is probably the best value restaurant in the area. Every single thing on their menu and behind the bar is fairly priced. They also have amazing daily specials that are even lower than their every day prices. Their wings are amazing and they even make their own sauces. Volcano sauce is one of the few sauces that actually has heat AND good flavor. Their Thursday burger basket is an insane deal. The AYCE fish on Friday's is always delicious. Their homemade mac and cheese bites go reallllly well with an ice cold pitcher. They also seem to always be showing the golf channel which I love. I just love woodies and I'm very glad they kept feeding me throughout the COVID madness.
At Woodies Tavern you have a very welcoming home away from home feeling. In town for the Notre Dame game and we had a great cup of Lisa’s chicken noodle soup a cold beer followed by the French Dip. We will be going back for lunch. Thanks again Lisa for your warm hospitality!
