My parents brought me n my sis when we where younger every Tuesday there food is the best and I still go there and it’s the best I mean the BEST EVER
I've enjoyed dining at Jim's for 50 years, and that's a long, long time. I absolutely love the fish, it's got a delicateness and flavor that just can't be beat! I look forward to coming here every single time, or for take-out ~ delicious! Also, I'd like to add that the staff is wonderful, even when they're packed to the rafters busy, they're kind and ready to laugh, a real family place. I hope they're open for generations to come.
Just outside the Syracuse City limits on the extremely Northern boundaries lies a fish fry place that's been there since 1944. It has faithfully served over their many years the factory workers from the near by manufacturing facilities as well as a large contingent of regulars who have enjoyed many of Fridays having fried delicacy from the sea.
This actually is a full service restaurant with sit down seating and not merely a take out fish fry place. Therefore, their menu is a bit more expansive than other take out places around town. And unlike many of the takeout Friday fish frys, they do take credit cards.
Their style of frying is the darker and more cruncher type rather than the more current versions of lighter and fluffier frying you get from many fish fry serving fried haddock. It's a personal preference, but I enjoy both style of frying.
Like I said, you get a full line a fried fish products including frog legs. Seasonally you can also get bullhead fish starting about March through about the beginning of May.
The staff is friendly serving many regulars but very welcoming to any newcomers. If you ordering for takeout I would recommend calling ahead since they make all meals to order.
This is really another great Syracuse area landmark eating destination for those wanting to experience the local cuisine of the blue collar working class folk.
Great food and you can eat a full meal and still have food left over to eat for later. Everyone here is friendly. One of the best fish dinner places around.
Fish was really good clam chowder was good. Mac n cheese was terrible. You can tell It was microwaved and my service was atrocious. I was lucky to even get served food. The place was busy. I think i was the youngest person there and I'm 47 if that tells you anything. Don't get me wrong the fish was really good.
Ordered the fish dinner on a Friday evening during Lent. Large portion of delicious fried fish, fries, and coleslaw. Don’t be discouraged by the line, they crank the orders out quickly.
Old time fish fry and more! Get the scallops, and the frog legs! This is an old time fish fry hangout born out of the industrial days of old Syracuse, and preserved by locals now. The neon sign outside has faded away, you can't make out the name on the sign, and the place is not something to talk about, but if you are looking for a no nonsense fish fry with great people who talk to you like they have known you for years, or want to know you like you are the rock star who just moved into town, Melissa and Georgia will make you feel that way instantly when they bring you those overflowing plates of food you ordered. What I love about the food is that, just like the place, the food is also unpretentious. Never heavy on the salt, they strictly believe that you can always add more salt to your personal taste, but they can't take it out. Will be back!
The place is old and needs remodeling, but that's no surprise since it opened in 1944. Staff and service were excellent. Fish was good, if not a bit bland. Fries looked home cut but were soggy. Onion rings and Cole slaw were excellent, about as good as they get. Our order was a steep $59, but plenty of food that fed 5 people. There's no excuse for a "fish fry" place not having fresh lemon wedges, even if they charged for it. They did offer lemon juice packets but forgot to include in our take out. They charged for extra tartar sauce packets. Would have given 3.5 stars if I could. Good to see this place is still in business and worth a try but bring your own lemon.
You'll smell like fried fish the rest of the day after sitting in there. Great fish though. Coleslaw is vinegar based (not mayo) and it's great. Fries are undercooked normally but are home made. Prices are great. I'd just get take out next time though.
Lived close by all my life but first time here. Amazing! Literally best fish ever.
Place was awesome great prices excellent customer service we got there at closing and the lady still served us with great service and fish dinners were awesome we finally found our new fish spot kudos awesome
Great value for what you get. The place needs a good updating and cleaning but the food is what brings people there. Definitely not a place to eat if you are watching your weight. The fish and frog legs were great. Although I’m not a fan of soggy fries, these fries somehow had I little crunch and a certain sweetness to them.
