Laverna's Coffee Shop Tucson

Sadly Laverna's isn't gonna win any awards for snazzy curb appeal, but l was there for the food. The place is unique, it's old, dated and faded. But we found it to be a hidden gem off the beaten path. We were immediately warmly greeted upon entry and enthusiastically made to feel welcomed. We were invited to seat ourselves wherever we'd like. The table we sat at was bussed but unfortunately it wasn't wiped down. Our server took our drink orders right away and upon request immediately wiped down the table. I ordered the huevos rancheros, not exactly what l had invisitioned, a rather huge amount of lettuce covered by two tostada shells covered by two made to order eggs buried in salsa. I always order bacon to go with my huevos rancheros because bacon makes everything better, and after some replating adjustments with the beans added in it was OK, minus the abundance of lettuce. And while good, It's not something l would order again, nor would l recommend it to anyone. (Drumroll please) The star of the show was the wives apple pecan pancake. 😱 OMG 😱 not only was it bigger then the plate huge, it was unlike any other pancake I've had before. Large chucks of cooked tender apple along with a healthy amount of pecans in a thick fluffy pancake. The outer coating was a scalded caramelized sugar and cinnamon mixture, while offered it definitely didn't need any additional sryup added to it. It was beyond delicious and had a wonderful dessert like quality to it. Don't misjudge this book by its cover, the food was outstanding and the service was top notched. I would highly recommend a visit, additionally I'd highly recommend the specialty pancake. I'm thinking I'll try the banana pecan pancake on my next visit.

Good restaurant to have breakfast. I had the huevos rancheros and one of their pancakes. The eggs were good but that’s it. I saw other dishes which looked better. I wish I had tried the machaca, that looked great. In any case I totally recommend their pancakes. OMG they are great! I had the one with apple and it did not disappoint me. I definitely recommend you to have one of them, just be careful because they are big! Great place to have breakfast, totally recommended!
