Stopped in while at the museum. I was very impressed with the braised pork. It came with sides I got the coconut rice & okra as well as the curry chickpeas. My partner got the spinach and rice along with sweet potato pie. The pork is excellent, a bit greasy and the okra rice has mild coconut flavor that goes great with the pork. The curry chickpeas are full of flavor. The spinach is a bit slimy but tasted okay and the sweet potato pie was good too. Overall solid—about $25/plates after drinks.

The chicken dinner was delicious! The collards greens was a little sweet for my taste, but, didn't slow me down. Best cafe of the Smithsonian museums. As a side note, anywhere you eat in the tourist area is expensive. I got a small ice cream cone from a food truck on the street and it was 7$. That, was overpriced!

What a way to end the African American Smithsonian experience!!! The Sweet Home Cafe was such a delight and a sweet welcome surprise. Their customer service was absolutely amazing. The food looked and tasted soooo good. The chicken and fish were golden brown. The ribs looked scrumptious. I mean everything looked so tantalizing. I had two helping of collard greens, green beans and cornbread. It was such a great way to appreciate the art of soul food.

The best museum food I've ever seen. We were just trying to get a quick bite during our museum visit but when we saw the menu we had to order a full meal. We had the ribs with coleslaw and potato salad plus chicken tenders with fries. Everything was beyond delicious! Restaurant quality food. We would come back here just to eat again. There's a lot of seating available and the menu truly has something for everybody. We highly recommend checking out the museum and if you're there do Not skip this cafe.

The 50th Anniversary of HipHop was phenomenal. The cafeteria was lit! This is a memory I will treasure. My boyfriend was celebrating his birthday that day. I have only seen him that hype a handful of times. Thank you for helping me make his special day amazing. Now about the food. We were lucky to try the vegan pop up menu. That nashville hot fried mushroom sandwich slaps! The sauce was spicy and tangy. The black eye pea & spinach salad was a pleasant surprise too!

The food here was really tasty. I had low expectations since it's a cafeteria style place but the chicken was great as well as the bean salad. My partner got a beef rice bowl that was even better. Service wasn't great, you had to wait in line for a while to get served and when you got there the staff were irritable and hard to hear. Atmosphere is communal. It's a bit loud but it's a cafeteria style so no surprises. It's very convenient if you've been in the museum. There's Mac and cheese for kids, which would be welcome. I'd eat there again.

Everyone told me in advance how exceptional the food was here. The day we went, the food was just so-so but the prices were huge. For my cousin and me the total was $90. (WTH!!??). We both had the fried chicken with 2 sides. The mac and cheese lacked flavor, the greens were ok and the chicken had a different flavor which we both enjoyed. However, that was a far cry from the 'great food' everyone had boasted about. The cornbread was not homemade and the food was not served hot, but barely warm. We each had dessert, the caramel cheesecake for me and the lemon bar for her which we enjoyed. Plenty of seating and the tables were kept clean.

Had the pulled pork and chicken which were both excellent. The corn pudding was exceptional! Recommend for a lunch break in the museum.

I went in with low expectations for museum food, but was very surprised at how good it was. Only got sides mac & cheese, potato salad, sweet potato and corn bread it was delicious. Also really liked that there were signs to tell you if vegetarian.

My kids and I ate here after the African American history museum. They have a huge selection of comfort /soul food from fried fish to bbq to candied yams. We had the fried chicken with collard greens and Mac & cheese. Plus some hush puppies and bread pudding. And my youngest had the Carolina pork sandwich with house made chips and brown sugar baked beans. They loved all of the food! The greens were very flavorful and tasty! It is a bit pricey to eat there and you can’t take the food to go. But otherwise I sure winner for eating comfort food in DC!
