I love the gyos and the ice cream and the pizza puff Italian beef the best in lake county IL and the staff is also great
Grew up in Waukegan, my dad and I would get pizza, followed by Shirl's almost every week after Sunday school! I loved chocolate dipped cones the best!
I’ve been coming here for over 30 years, and the quality has remained consistent the entire time. We usually only get ice cream, but it is always delicious and the dip flavors are something special to look forward to. Many places sell soft serve, but Shirl’s is a place to make memories—especially after a round of mini golf next door!!—and traditions for your family. I’ve been taking my own daughter here, just like my parents took me. I hope this place continues to stay open for many more years.
I normally get the shrimp dinner. But thisntime indecisive to try something different. This is the fish and shrimp dinner. The fish was flavorful and the meat was nice and flaky. Shrimp was a tad bit over cooked more than I wanted but was still enjoyable. Breading on the shrimp was a little tougher to chew.
Great natural ice cream, sundaes, banana splits, and other wonderful cold treats of all kinds on the menu. Delicious and tasty fried foods. Drive-thru is fast. You can order at the counter and eat inside or outside. Great friendly customer service. No public bathrooms. The parking lot is limited. No Handicap spots. The only problem is leaving the parking lot. It can be a bit dangerous at night since Lewis is a busy street, so please be careful.
You can never go wrong with Shirls in Waukegan. Its a nostalgic restaurant, even if they have new owners. They kept the same and add some more stuff to the menu.
Some respectful young teenagers work here never had a problem I always get cheese fries they are the best and a slurpee.

I remeber this place growing up when they where on Washington. Its still just as good. Good food great service. Just as it should be. The Italian ice is to die for

Being gluten free means it's hard to find places to go. My husband and I were with my mom and her fiance and we were playing mini golf next door. They decided they wanted ice cream so we stopped in here. The prices are pretty good. I knew I was taking a risk but I did it anyway. I figured ice cream is almost always gluten free and I know they put fresh strawberries in the milkshake so I'd be good there. I even asked what I'm assuming was the manager maybe even the owner Vince if they could wash the machine before making my shake knowing they do also have malts. He assured me they did. I saw him do it so I felt pretty safe. Now I sit here with my normal celiac symptoms. 😞 So if you have to avoid gluten you might want to skip this place. It was really good and the symptoms are very mild so it feels like cross contamination is what got me. Vince was very nice though and I would recommend everyone go here unless you celiac disease.
Love this place ,enjoying coming here for the past two summers for sundaes, scooter pies and now their 1/4 pd cheeseburgers, as well they offered a variety of other foods pizza puffs , hotdogs, fries and shakes..!!
This place also employs some of the friendliest young people at both locations Waukegan & Zion ... I will come here as often as my waist will allow 🥰💃🏾🥰... You should go, you'll enjoy it!
