First off, if you're expecting regular tacos from a taco stand or typical Mexican restaurant on the south side, don't come here. BUT..if you're looking for a speciality, high quality tacos with tons of flavor...this is your spot!!! The carne Asada is my favorite and the Frito is to die for. The quality and presentation of meal is awesome! This place instantly became my favorite place. Will be back with friends and family!!!!
Vibrant atmosphere set the mood for all the flavor they put into those tacos! I don't even eat shrimp, but was eager to try the frito- lightly battered and fried shrimp with gourmet toppings. Also had the Patata, pollo, and rice bowl, which was made to perfection. Service is quick and staff is extremely welcoming and friendly! Don't let the prices fool you, every penny is WORTH it!
We arrived when they opened at 11am. It's a fast, casual place with decent Mexican food. The decor has an emphasis on Dia de los muertos. Day of the Dead. Interesting. The tacos were good and generous. I had the house tacos with shrimp ($495) and one with beef ($3.95). I also ordered a beans and rice side and was expecting refried beans but received just regular. It was tasty and I finished it all instead of having leftovers. I wish these Mexican restaurants would stock Ortega sauce, my favorite. The hot sauces like Cholula are okay but Ortega has a tang and tomato sweetness that adds a lot. Ellen had the beef quesadillas. I really liked those for the beef and cheese. We had the churros with chocolate sauce and the churros in ice cream. They passed the tasty test. We liked them a lot! The service was good and they brought out our food to the table because I was on crutches. The photos show that it is essentially a box with tables and Mexican touches. The bathroom is shared with another restaurant and was clean and had handicap bars for the toilet and a diaper changing station. I will be back to try the quesadillas again.
We lived in the heart of Texas for a few years so our taco standards are pretty high. We're also used to getting tacos anywhere, any time of day, so we were happy to see another taco place open up nearby. I like that it's a fast casual place. No formal sitting down, ordering from a server, waiting 20 minutes, etc. You can place your order and be eating in 10 minutes or less.
The tacos themselves are perfectly fine. They are nothing to write home about but I have most definitely had worse. I feel like they're reasonably priced for what you get, and everything is made after you order. No piles of meat or toppings sitting around waiting to be used. You can actually see the employees shaving pieces of meat off a big chunk so you know it's fresh.
The guacamole is also fine though I wish you got more for what you paid. Or at the very least had two size options. You get so many chips that you're left with at least half when you're done eating and have no real way of transporting them home so you don't waste them.
Overall Taqueria El Jefe is an above average taco joint in an area where there aren't many taco places to pick from. Give them a try and I don't think you'll be disappointed!
A quiet place. Inconspicuous but has some of the best tacos in town. The chef makes the tacos right in front of the house if you care to watch. Has some really good decorations, so much so that I wanna hire the same interior designer for my house.
Nice place for a quick meal, this is a very good taco stop, order two tacos and rice and beans are on the house, check out the daily specials also.
The food was good. The pork belly rice is a must have. The portions are perfect. Very good and a quiet place to mingle
A hidden gem on the Northeast side of MKE. It was quiet during lunch when I went. I tried the tostones appetizer that was good with the spicy mayo on top. I like the complementary rice and beans when you order 3 tacos, nice touch. The agua fresca of jamaica was perfectly sweetened and very refreshing.
Tacos overflowing with meat. I can never finish my 3 tacos. Second visit and love it. Good food. Great music.. Authentic...

Best street tacos I've had in a long time - and in Wisconsin! Cute place too. I can't wait to go back.
