Went for the first time on Sunday and had such a great time. Live music outside, awesome dj inside. The dance floor was full of such amazing people. The bartenders were really on top of getting everyone their drinks and prices were good as well! Definitely going again and spreading the word! Everyone I've asked has never heard of this place!
The Square Bar is a West Chester institution. It has defied the times for decades. It has welcomed thousands, and lost hundreds of dear customers due to passing.
With all the upscale choices of the "new" West Chester, the Square Bar has never changed.
It's where friends from all walk of life have gathered, toasted, mourned, celebrated and bonded.
May it go on as it has been forever.
One of the best low key places in WC. A bit off the normal path but well worth the trip. Great verity on tap and food is absolutely delicious. Definitely go for the cheese steaks and shoot some darts while you booze.
Food is good, and staff are attentive and friendly. Place still looks the same since the last time I came in some 25 years ago. Wasn’t crowded. Nice atmosphere on this visit.

The Cheesesteak was very good and came with french fries. It had a nice big bready roll. It had a good/very good amount of meat. The meat, fried onions, mushrooms and sweet pepper were so well chopped together that they could have spent time together in a food processor. The cheese was melted through the whole cheesesteak. I didn’t get an itemized bill but I think the cheesesteak was under $10. I am a big Square Bar fan.
So, my dad/hero (RIP) and I used to predominantly haunt Becco’s … and Maloney&Porcelli’s + Cité in Hell’s Kitchen. (RIP the last two restaurants 😭 as well.) Spoto’s in 33418 and Barrio Star in San Diego … this seems like the oddest review. But my point is that I haven’t felt compelled to write anything until I had two whiskey sours and a cheesesteak at the Square Bar, today. In fact, I haven’t gone to many restaurants/bars at all since my dad passed in 2020. To come into such an awesome environment with banging food and encounter two awesome employees; (didn’t catch the name of the killer cheesteak maker-queen) and Gretchen. The drinks—environment—food—and two ladies working there, helped me to feel comfortable, like I wanted to stay, and forget any sads for the time being. Highly recommend x’s a million
If my dad was still around … (again, miss you Dad), and we randomly took root in the g reater philly area? Square Bar would be a staple. Hands down. Keep up the good fight Square Bar! Don’t change a thing
A place all its own! Great service and drinks. TV, games, darts, appetizers, popcorn, juke box.....what more could you want?!?! Service is quick and it is mellow during the week if you want to go on and catch a game on TV or have a few drinks and a conversation with friends. Still very affordable- can get a few good drinks with a quality vodka and some snacks and not break the bank!
I used to frequent this bar quite a bit in the nineties. I'm glad to see that it still has the same small town bar feel. The bartender was great. Best place to take our son for his first legal drink. Such a great time!
This is that local bar that everyone wishes is in their neighbors. Nothing fancy, no frills , and friendly crowd. Think 1983 for the decor, and that's what makes it cool. Food is surprisingly good, nothing fancy, fried foods, sandwiches and bar pizza. No need to dress up or down. Local crowd, dark board and beer. You'll become a regular in no time...
This place is iconic. The staff is where the five stars come from. Cheryl cheerful helpful and always attentive. Frank bartender, amazing service. Kind, respectful, welcoming and knows your name, what you drink or not drink, never disappoints. With Frank behind the bar you immediately know five stars are earned respected and appreciated. Come see for yourself .
