Don Lupe West Plains

You have to know about me: Mexican restaurants are my go to 90% of the time. I started going to Don Lupe a few months after it opened. On my first visit, I was first struck by the flavor of the salsa. It is mildly spicy with a good flavor, texture, and consistency. I've considered just going there and eating solely chips and salsa (and maybe some guac). lol After my first visit, I began going with greater frequency until it became a weekly visit. Why? Because I found that virtually everything had good flavor. For example, when I get beef anything at most Mexican restaurants, it's pretty bland beef and the flavor is about the fillings (cheese). At Don Lupe, even the beef is well seasoned and stands on its own. So by this point I think I've had around half of everything on the menu including enchiladas, chile poblanos, burritos, tacos, taco salad, carnitas, pazole, tamales, many different daily specials (including most of the ones involving chorizo), and more. And I've drank a ton of Negro Modelo on tap. Yes, on tap. I usually go for lunch, so just one regular frosty glass. But they also have a large glass that's frosty and truly large. Amber says the sangrias are really good too. I don't drink margaritas, so can't help you there. I haven't had tequila there, but I see on the bar a pretty good selection that I hope to get into sometime! Also, if you like JALAPENOS, I recommend you get the fried jalapeno. It's a whole large jalapeno deep fried (NOT battered) and served on a plate with sauteed onions. $1.50 and well worth the fire! I deseeded mine and still got burned.... lol.

Great food. I would recommend some expansion of the beer choices, but the food makes up for the small selection of beer. I like the Chili relleno with steak and bacon. It is fantastic. I am still stuffed from lunch. The service is friendly and good.
