Dicono di noi: Dopo una visita alla più celebre attrazione della zona abbiamo scelto di allontanarci un po' dalla folla festiva del lago e pranzare in questo ristorante più a monte, non proprio agevole da raggiungere ma meritevole. Il locale è allestito in uno stile rustico tutt'altro che banale, con una prevalenza di legno e mattoni che conferiscono all'insieme un aspetto tradizionale e casereccio. Dopo un'originale serie di antipasti, che spaziavano dai classici affettati al pesce di lago, abbiamo scelto un unico piatto per ciascun commensale, tutti diversi e, a mio parere, tutti gustosi. Il servizio è stato molto gentile ed efficiente (forse solo un po' lento, ma avendo ordinato piatti differenti è comprensibile) ed il conto finale consono alla qualità dei piatti e del contesto. Considerando la capienza "normale" del posto (ante Covid), i posti auto a distanza ragionevole sono insufficienti. Ottimo quindi per escursionisti e buoni camminatori, meno per chi desidera soltanto la comodità.

Il Ristorato Del Castello is different. You get, quite possibly, the best view of the lake from the terrace here of any other eatery on the approximately 100 miles of shoreline and there’s no chance of being bothered by any of the thousands of curious ducks and passive aggressive swans that patrol the shallows. Why? Because this is the cafe at Vezio Castle and it’s several hundred feet up a steep hill. You wouldn’t come here just for the food and drink (there’s nothing wrong with it - it’s good, but nothing special. It’s just a tourist attraction cafe after all), but you would come here for the views and a very pleasant relaxing coffee and panini after the long climb from Varenna to visit the castle. We were here on the very last day of the season before the castle goes into hibernation for the winter. It was a fine, mild day and the place was moderately busy. It was very pleasant and the coffee was great. My daughter had hot chocolate which was just that, a mug of melted chocolate. She thought she had died and gone to heaven! On a warm day in summer I can imagine it would be hard to find a lovelier spot than this to drink a coffee or a beer and take in the views.
